Dear Parents and Guardians, This school year, I (Abigail Claesson, HSHS Art Teacher) have committed to creating a series of digital posts with easy techniques and suggestions for supporting your child(ren) as they navigate high school. According to research done at the Center on Developing Children, at Harvard University: “The single most common factor for children who develop resilience is at least one stable and committed relationship with a supportive parent, caregiver, or other adult.” Check out this research-backed method which will foster resiliency and positive study skills. Keep an eye out for future posts! - Ms. Claesson

A message from HSHS Financial Literacy Teacher Marisa Guaderrama: My three financial literacy classes participated in the Stock Market Game from October 3, 2022, to December 9, 2022. They competed against 123 teams in our region, some of which are 5A schools. Each team started off with $100,000 to invest in stocks, bond and mutual fund. Each team decided what they would invest in and traded depending on how the market was going. As you can imagine this was quite interesting with all the adjustments the Federal Government has been making with interest rates. Below I have included a table with the information on how each of the teams did and the students who were on each team. What is very cool is that I had 4 of the top 10 teams in our region. I’m very proud of my students and their commitment to the project and all that they learned. They analyzed the market and their portfolio’s progress and traded stocks accordingly. One of my groups made $8,506 in their portfolio in the two months they played the game.
