It's HOSA Week this week! Join in the fun!
All costumes must adhere to the district dress code and be school appropriate.
Hot Springs Cross Country traveled to Cobre to compete at the District Championships on Friday, October 28th. Rodrigo Reyes won District Champion and shattered his own HSHS school record by 22 seconds with a time of 17:24.0. Rodrigo and Robert Walters were awarded All District honors. We also had several personal bests crushed in the meet. Our boys' team won 3rd place qualifying them for the State 3A meet in Albuquerque coming up on Saturday, November 5th.

Members of the STEAM team as well as other HSHS Students competed in their first practice for the NM Academic Challenge on Tuesday, Oct 25th. The team, led by Destiny Mitchell, and consisting of 8 members with varying areas of expertise, took on another school for the practice round via zoom. The “Jeopardy Style” quiz bowl covers subjects such as math, English and literature, science, current events, social studies including history and geography, art and music, PE/Health, and computer science. HSHS is proud to say that they not only won the practice challenge today, but they finished with a huge lead in points over the other school. Our next challenge will be November 17th, and we hope to be able to have both a JV and a Varsity team, instead of just one. Kudos to the students who competed today! Pictured are Vivi LaFont, Jair Serrano, Kahden Vienna, Killian Weaver, Mina Kwiek, Ari Ruben, Tempest Chaves-Higgins, and Evan Hinkley.
HSHS is in need of Substitute Teachers!
Full STEAM Ahead!
Members of the local HSHS STEAM Team attended a field trip on Friday, October 21st, with members of the NMTech Geology department. HSHS Science Teachers and STEAM leaders Destiny Mitchell and David Rice accompanied the students on a tour around downtown Truth or Consequences obtaining geothermal water samples as well as temperature and depth of monitor wells in the area. Sr. Geophysicist and Field Geologist from the NM Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, Shari Kelley, gave a presentation on the geothermal aquifer from downtown TorC, and handled all of the equipment to measure the depth and temperature of the wells. Bonnie Frey, geochemist and analytical lab manager from NMT also guided students in taking water samples at Indian Hot Springs. We were accompanied by Ben Duval, an assistant professor of biology, Kevin Padilla, a PhD student in geochemistry, and Cynthia Connolly a manager of Education Outreach from the Bureau as well. The students were able to perform hands-on measuring and recording analyses as well as comprehension of the results of the lab work. The HSHS STEAM Team plans on conducting their own water and well sample research over the next month and returning to NMT for the final conclusions of their field work.
HSHS Picture Retake Day!
